The Sheltie is a "watch" dog, not a guard dog; nor is it visually frightening. It will bark at intruders, but after giving warning, may either retreat or escort them though your house.

Hi Kim,

As promised, a little testimonial that you can put on your site to thank you for your great job as a breeder:

We have welcomed Apollo in our house two month ago. He’s our first dog and we were very shy about the whole housebreaking process.

I must give a lot of credit to Kim for making it so easy for us!

Not only did she train him so well that he has been sleeping like a baby in his crate since the first night but she is also extremely responsive and helpful when a question arises.

When I compare our experience with our puppy to other families, I can see all the great job and time that Kim must have spent before handing out to us this adorable companion. He’s playful and lovable and ..even gets on well with our 4 year old cat!

We definitely would recommend Kim to anybody looking for a sheltie.

  photos coming.

When we lost our much loved dog to an autoimmune disorder in the prime of his life, that was supposed to be the end of dog ownership for us. But. after time had healed the loss, we decided it was time to look for another doggy companion with whom to share our hearts. We decided on a Sheltie as the breed whose characteristics would blend into our home and lives perfectly so began to carefully search for a breeder who invested the love and care into her dogs that only family raised and socialized dogs can produce. That means a well adjusted, confident and happy dog that fits into its new family easily with a minimal of stress. It also means health and genetic testing to rule out commonly occurring health and genetic problems within the breed. What I learned was that it looked like we were expecting too much and such a responsible breeder was hard to find.

Then I found Kim of KM Shelties and after exchanges of phone calls and emails, I felt she truly understood what was sound practice in the breeding and caring of dogs. She obviously cared about her dogs and wanted to make sure the prospective owner would provide a good, loving home for her puppies. I guess we passed and then began the long wait for our puppy. At last the call came and pictures were sent and we happily made the trip down to Ludington to spend time with the pups and see which one fit best into our household.

We sat in the yard and played with the pups who were very comfortable and showed no signs of fear and were very eager to get acquainted with us. What a difficult decision it was because they all were beautiful, friendly and playful. One little guy kept coming over to me and when I held him, he seemed to act like this was where he belonged and settled on my lap for the longest time (considering he was a rambunctious puppy the minute before.) When I put him down, he would play for a bit and then come back to me and he did this several times. He had chosen me and even Kim said that- he was the one to come home with us.

Kiltie rode the entire trip home on my lap and with no fussing or whining, he explored the house and yard and settled right in from the first night any sign of stress. Kim had sent a sock he and the other pups had played with for familiar scents to help him adjust.

He was 11 weeks old and by the end of 2 weeks he had completed house training and had not soiled in his crate once. Basic good dog manners and commands were easily and joyfully learned.

We credit the early foundation of trust and confidence Kim began with Kiltie which resulted in the wonderful companion Kiltie has become. We can’t fully express how much we appreciate the effort and caring Kim puts into her each of her dogs which shows so clearly in our Kiltie, a very fine dog indeed!

Subject: Sheltie Testimonial

After several disappointing experiences with other breeders, Kim was a breath of fresh air.  Not only was she prompt to respond to our letters with multiple questions, she was a great guide through out the process of adopting our gorgeous and lovable Sheltie.

It was a pleasure to get to know how knowledgeable, caring, very ethical and over all, Kim is a very nice person.

We had an amazing experience in our adoption process and as a result, we have an adorable puppy that we love very, very much!

A few additional comments: first, if we are going somewhere, we need to allow extra time, because people stop us all of the time and express their admiration for our puppy. Secondly, we wish he would grow slower :-).

We HIGHLY recommend Kim for anyone who would like to adopt a healthy, intelligent, gorgeous puppy, that will fill your life with so much joy, and in the process have an experienced, very ethical and knowledgable breeder and  beautiful human being inside and out.

April 13, 2016   I was just about to catch up on some emails. He got all "A's" from the vet. He said he could be 35 - 40 pounds, based on his bone structure, paws etc. he weighs 9 pounds +  and he does like shoes.

Did you say he likes shoes??? Shoe nirvana!

I smiled and told him I already knew that :).... Lacie is sleeping all night...I have followed your instructions, she goes in her crate at around 9:30 at night (with her blanket and a toy) and she sleeps all the way until around 6 -615 in the morning.  ....  We just love our new puppy!!!  Thanks so much for being so patient with me!! Subject: Riley and Gordie

Kim,

Thank you for another great dog.  We purchased Riley (tri female) from the Sky/Elton litter in January 2010 and Gordie (a blue merle male) from the Emmie/Hajji litter in November 2013.  We get compliments on how beautiful they are where ever we take them.  Besides being beautiful, they are loving, loyal, playful, smart happy dogs.  Your tips on bringing them home were great.  Both adjusted to their new homes immediately and were easy to housebreak.  Gordie already goes to the door and barks to go outside. We can tell you worked with them and they were well socialized before bringing them home.  Also,  we really enjoy your website.  You do a great job on taking pictures and videos of the puppies as they grow.  We were comfortable buying dogs from you because we could see them on the website before we decided.  When the time comes, we will definitely buy from you again.

Subject: How much food for Oscar?
Good morning Kim,

At Oscar's recent vet appointment he came out to almost 14 pounds! 3 weeks ago he was about 10. Wow! Two recent photos are attached. He's looking lovely. We didn't stage the sleepy one. He loves his toys.  Anyway, we're still feeding him a cup and a half per day. Same amount since the day we got him. We're doing 3/4 cup twice per day. Is this too much or too little do you think? He doesn't ever seem hungry during the day or night, but he really chows down when it's time to eat.
Just being sure about everything. When is it time to up the amount of food? He is healthy and happy. He hardly barks if ever, which I feel is uncommon for Shelties, but we like it.
His training is coming along great. He's very smart. Won't chew anything other than his toys, goes to the door to potty, and he can sit, lay, stay, come, and even jump on the couch on command!
Happy New Year, and thanks for a great friend.
     -M and K

 Hi Kim,

Was just thinking about sending you an email.  Thanks for the update. Oliver is doing great.  He had his second checkup on Thursday.  He is 14.2 lbs, and growing like a weed :)  The vet commented on his outgoing personality.  He's such a little lover.
He has fit into the family really well. Both Abby and Penny have really taken to him.  He spends hours playing and running outside with Abby.  I think he is really having a positive influence on her.  She has always been such a shy girl, and she seems to really have alot of fun with him.  He found his voice about a week and a half ago.  He uses it to let us know that he needs to go outside, if he's hungry (boy does he like to eat), or just when he's playing.

I can't even begin to tell you how happy we are to have him as part of our family.  He is such a wonderful boy.  Thank you for all that you did for him.  We love him.

Morning Kim,

Both have stayed clean with no accidents whatsoever in the house ever since they arrived. I would have to say they are housebroken fully to going outside on the grass to do their business. So much so that they will howl to get attention to make sure they get out there. They are animated, funny, very outgoing and curious about the world.
Both passed their health exams and were found to be in excellent heath. The health records you provided were complete, and well documented. I believe they will do exceptionally well going forward because of the excellent start you and your family have given them. Well done and many thanks for doing such a good job with them.

Dear Kim.
I wanted to write and thank you. Zayns Vet was so impressed with your health record, Zayns disposition and everyone says when they meet him that, he is so sweet! He is just perfect for our home. He was sleeping through the night on the 3rd night. So thank you for all your pointers and suggestions on bringing him home and grooming ect. I really appreciate it. I hope things are going well with the rest of the Shelties. They are all such nice puppies.

Knock on wood, but she has had no accidents, gone the bathroom outside every time. She is very social... thanks to all your hard work, I will try to do as good a job as you have. Dear Kim,
Just a note to say thanks for letting us buy Miles. He is a nut and a love. We have had Shelties since 1970 and we fell in love with the breed. We have had sables, tris and blue merles and now Miles the bi-black. Years ago I showed in obdience and loved it, but now Miles is just our buddy. In those years we have run into alot of the bad problems with the breed, but Miles is the ideal sheltie. He has a nice thick coat, great ears, healthy and sturdy, and a great personally with plenty of smarts. Even my son who is likes Lab type dogs thinks Miles is just a good buddy. What ever you are doing in your breeding and developing program keep it up. Miles is the love of our life. I have bragged him up and tell everyone who we got him from. Thanks again for allowing us to be Miles' people.
Margie and Carl Barry
P.S. Even our Vet calls him her handsome guy!

Subject: Re: Nalla/Simba

Hey Kim,
Thanks so much for all the helpful advice, and little tidbits! Its good to know that they're sociable, but then after getting Simba, it really wasn't a concern. He's got to be the sweetest dog we've ever run across.
We could not have managed to stumble across you at a better time. Simba is easily the house-hold star. He's taken center stage, and let us know what qualities we want to instill in all our other dogs. Besides the fact that he's gorgeous, he's that perfect balance of a dog. He's got the perfect temperament, and loves to dote on tiny animals, even going so far as to gently pat them with his paw and nuzzle or lick them. He's claimed all the cats as his babies, and blocks the boys from roughhousing with them. (It's still the sweetest thing we've seen a sheltie do.) Training him was so easy, it was as if he didn't need our help at all. You have no idea just how eager the family is to get his girlfriend, Nala, next week!

I'm so excited! I just know we'll be fighting over who gets her first.

It was a wonderful experience getting a puppy from KM Shelties.  Kim was warm, honest and very helpful in our numerous phone conversations about the puppy and shelties in general.  Getting the puppy from Michigan to our home in California was a logistical "project" which Kim was very helpful with, including making the long drive from her home to the airport twice as the airlines cancelled last minute on the first attempt.

The puppy is just adorable, with nice form, has a great outgoing, eager to please personality, is exceptionally smart and is already a perfect little "showman".

Thank you,

Tara

We welcome your inquiry about the shelties.

Our current pair of Shelties did come from Kim in Scottville and we are so happy with them.  (We have had 5 Shelties.)

Kim raises the pups with her family so they are very socialized before they come home with you.  Our puppies slept thru the whole night the first day home (if you've ever had to get up nightly to let one out, you'll appreciate that!)

We became aware of Kim when we adopted a Sheltie whose owner could no longer keep him, and he was originally from Kim.  He was very precious too.

None of our shelties have had the eye gene, but I am aware of the disease. Karlene

Hi Kim - I periodically look at your sight to see what's going on!  We bought Astro from you in 2005 (one of Sonic and Skittle's pup). The pups you have are always so beautiful - Astro is still the best dog EVER!!!  We love him to pieces!  We may be interested in another some day down the road!

Kim,

We wanted to write and let you know how much we love our Sheltie puppy. We cannot imagine life without her. She has been the best puppy. She was so easy to potty train. Crate training was easy too. She still loves to sleep in her crate even though we leave the door open now.

She rarely barks. In fact she loves visitors and attention. Which she gets allot of. The neighborhood children love to come over and play with her. People stop us all the time to talk about her. How beautiful she is and how well behaved. Of course we agree. Her color headed white coloring is simply stunning. She has such a sweet face that it melts your heart.

We have been Collie owners in the past, but now have been converted into lifetime Sheltie lovers. Thank you for being a caring and responsible breeder. When the time is right we will be back for another Sheltie!

copy of e-mail from Sept 09

Kim,  Absolutely - do you remember saying that you thought she would really blossom and come out when she got here? Well she has more than exceeded my expectations and that's after only 4 days ..  that I'm really thrilled with her

- not that I don't love all my puppies - I do - there is nothing more rewarding than watching a scared hurt (rescue) animal start to trust and  realize that everything is ok - but this little girl is so special.

We already have a bond and I'm so happy I have her in my life.  This is a true testament to your care and breeding of your dogs - can't say that about too many - needless to say she is a welcome addition and while I can never replace ....- Sadie is filling that hole very quickly .. so, thanks again and I hope you stay in touch ..
